Solar Energy Investment Driving A Healthy Economy In Bannock County

The proposed Harmon Solar Project will provide significant long-term tax revenue that will result in lower property taxes for local residents. In addition, the project will provide good-paying jobs, and direct contributions to local schools and other community organizations. The project will be entirely within Bannock County limits.

Bannock County economic benefits

Over the lifespan of the project, the Harmon solar project will contribute over $67 Million in tax revenue to the local community. In accordance with Idaho’s solar energy tax, the project will pay 3.5% of its gross solar energy earnings in taxes. This amount goes directly to local taxing districts where it is used to offset property tax payments. This means property owners pay less because the local taxing districts are receiving funds from solar energy production. It helps fund public services without increasing county budgets and reduces reliance on property taxes.
If fully built out, the over $67M investment in the local communities over the Harmon Solar Project life span will be invested in the following breakdown:

The Harmon Solar Project team members are committed to responsible development, including:

  • Conducting comprehensive environmental studies
  • Ensuring minimal impact on the natural landscape
  • Implementing a vegetation management plan that utilizes re-seeding with native grasses.
  • Evaluating feasibility of agrivoltaics including sheep grazing for vegetation management and planting pollinators

We are engaging with community and local neighbors to discuss the benefits of the project, listen to concerns, and collaboratively develop solutions that will address community and county feedback, resulting in a project we can all be proud of. We are committed to transparent and open communication for the long-term to ensure all questions and concerns are addressed in a timely manner throughout development and construction.
